6 Popular Interior Designs

6 Popular Interior Designs

In interior design, the goal is to improve the physical environment of a building so that it can provide a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for its users.

1. Modern Style

Modern interior design is characterized by clean lines, geometric forms, clear spaces and function.

A modern style has the similar characteristics as a minimalist interior. In this design, simplicity, cleanliness, and lack of detailing are emphasized. Clean, smooth lines are inspired by the architecture of the 1930s. The majority of color palettes of modern interior design, consist of neutral shades, such as whites, creams, and beiges. In contrast with minimalist interiors, these homes include bright colours such as orange, pink and turquoise on accent pieces. Plastic and plywood are frequently utilized in modern style furnishings.

2. Minimalist

In terms of minimalism, one immediately thinks of clean lines, reductive design, uncluttered, monochromatic style, simplicity, and the phrase “less is more.”

The minimalist approach emphasizes the importance of keeping a space simple, clean and clutter-free while showcasing the architectural features of the space. Most of the palette is monochromatic, and color is used as an accent.

3. Art Deco

To get into the mind frame of Art deco design, you’ll need to think back to geometry class — this streamlined style uses geometrical shapes everywhere. First coming to prominence in the 1920s in France, art deco is all about sleek forms, chrome hardware, glass tops and mirrored accents. Vibrant, often clashing colours, are also a part of this design style.

4. Scandinavian

Rooms designed in the Scandinavian style tend to boast white walls to emphasize light, a neutral-heavy palette with pops of color, natural textures such as wood and stone, a lack of window treatments and carpets, and simple, no-fuss layouts that emphasize an elegantly minimalist aesthetic. You can also expect bare wood floors and white painted brick walls that add a rough texture while maximizing the light streaming in through large windows.

5. Industrial

The aesthetic of industrial design shines a light on the former architectural structure and form of these spaces. The interior style is found in the use of salvaged materials; revealing the details within a building, including brick walls, exposed pipes, ducts and wooden frameworks, concrete flooring, steel framed windows and doors and opening up living spaces to create lofty ceilings and large open plan rooms.

6. Maximalism

As with all fashions and styles everything comes and goes over time and maximalism is seen as a push back to minimalism. The quiet whites, minimal decorating and less is more philosophy of minimalism is tossed out completely with maximalism, as colour, décor and more is more, are the go-to aspects of this design school of thought. However, furniture, colour, pattern, textiles and collections are not added without clear thought and clarity.

Using multiple colours and patterns is key, but consider using one colour or tone as a connecting theme throughout, it will provide a sense of balance in the room. Scale and type of furniture is fluid in a maximalist space, mixing modern with mid-century or antique is absolutely fine and in fact, encouraged, each piece adds to the bold richness of a maximalist home.

4 Laundry Room Ideas for Small Spaces

Everyone’s taste in house is different. Some people prefer large houses in the countryside while others choose small apartments in the city.  If you don’t have space in your house, the tips below might help you to use the laundry space you have efficiently.

Use a Cabinet

Using a cabinet to store appliances

A washing machine and dryer can be placed behind closed doors in the bathroom. It will be easier for the cabinets to blend into the house if you paint them the same color as the walls. For appliances with front-loading arrangements, this is a good way to conceal them in open floor plans and exposed areas. It will be hard to guess that this is where you spend your laundry day.

Go Vertical

Stacking appliances to save space

Every home has a limited amount of space to work with, and the laundry is too often overlooked. Whether or not your home has a spacious laundry room, it’s always nice to make the most of every bit of space available.

One great way to make the most efficient use of your laundry room is stacking which basically means  to take your dryer and place it on top of your front loading washing machine.

By making smart use of vertical space, you’ll leave more room available for organising the rest of your laundry. Stacking is an excellent way to save space.

Use Closet Space

Using a closet

First, determine if your closet is large enough to accommodate the washer and dryer. Closets are inherently tall and narrow, so remove the standard rod and shelves and you’ve got an ideal spot for stacked units. After installing a washer and dryer in the closet you can arrange a laundry basket and linen storage right next door in the neighbouring closet.

Store Under an Island

Using Kitchen Island as Storage Space

You can use an island bench as an eat-in area in the kitchen, plus house a washing machine and a dryer that are shut away behind closed doors. Being able to close doors on the functional areas keeps the small flat feeling uncluttered and neat.

Home Decorating Ideas!

Whether you are moving to a new place or just want to upgrade the look of your living area, the process is always exciting!  As much as exciting, it is also a stressful task. You have to take many things into consideration.

Some questions that may arise include; Which colour should the walls be? What kind of sofa you want? Are the wall decorations going to be hanging low or at eye sight? The colours- will they be nudes, pastels or bright colours? What should the texture be? But don’t worry. I am here to share my experiences as well as my days long research with you!

Step 1: Figure out your style

  • Modern
  • Contemporary
  • Transitional etc.

Step 2: Plan your Budget

We are approaching the time-consuming but crucial part of planning your finances. It is critical to inform yourself of how much money you want to spend before making a decision. Furniture is expensive, so setting a budget for your room and being firm about it is essential.

Keep in mind many design companies employ professionals to assist you in making the right choice from the start. You may be able to save a lot of time and money by following their advice.

Step 3: Plan and Decorate One Room at a Time

By attempting to decorate an empty new home at once, you are likely to be overwhelmed. Make a plan for each room, one at a time, and consider what’s most important to you!

Ideally, you should choose two or three rooms at a time and plan to decorate each one in turn. Starting from the rooms that you spend more time or has a high traffic would make decorating hassle free. I would suggest starting with your bedroom first and then move to the living room.

Most people don’t consider to have a layout plan beforehand. But it’s a very important step that will help you save time and money. Think of what you want to buy. Think if you have enough space in the room. If the room is small, try to limit the number of furniture. Over crowding a room will only make it harder to move around.

If your room has architectural features that might limit your use of the space, take that into consideration. A room might have enough space for a full-size seating area, but there might only be one wall where a sofa can be placed. Take the dimensions into consideration.

Step 4: Start with the Biggest Piece in the Room

Once your decorating plan has been broken down into pieces, utilize the same concept to identify the most important piece in the room.

Largest pieces are usually the most valuable and the most expensive in a room. It’s therefore important to start with that one piece and build on it. For the dining room, the centerpiece is the dining table. For your living room, choose your sofa or sectional first. In your bedroom, the bed is the most important piece in the room.

You should now have a fairly good idea of your style, so while shopping keep it true to it. You’ll have an easier time decorating the rest of your room once you have the general foundation in place.

Step 5: Choose Your Colour Palette

Choosing a color scheme for your space is the final step in the planning process. Your room will stand out if you have a focused color palette, regardless of whether you paint the walls.

Regardless of how you approach color, if you’re a novice, we suggest choosing a palette of about two to three light neutral tones.

Step 6: Decorate With Finishing Touches

Adding the finishing touches is also the last step that most of us look forward to. When your furniture is mostly neutral, customize your space with some thoughtful finishing touches to add color and texture. A room can be made more livable with small decor touches such as art, pillows, baskets, trays, and rugs.

You should look for finishing touches that can be changed seasonally or easily over time and regardless of where your space is located, whether it is your office or guest room. Most importantly, remember to stay true to your style. Your completed room should reflect your personal style and design aesthetic!

About Me

Hello!

I will be sharing content on my blog that is intended to inspire you.

Some basic information about me… I have been in love with anything related to decorations, arts and crafts, beauty, health and fitness, and DIY projects since childhood. I even took sewing and interior designing courses a couple years ago.

I actually started blogging when I was in college and eventually had to stop because I wasn’t able to keep up with my life. I was basically attending lectures 3 days week, had 2 days of placement, and on the weekends I was working part time at two jobs. After struggling for a couple of years,I finally feel better in time management. I am very excited to be back at blogging! It has been years, but I can still catch up!

Thank you for visiting my blog!
